Matahio's commitment to progressive energy extends beyond traditional methods. We constantly seek innovative solutions that redefine efficiency and unlock possibilities. In a recent groundbreaking project, we partnered with INCITIAS to revolutionise underwater inspections with micro ROV technology.
Traditionally, underwater mooring inspections rely on large Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) deployed from specialised Dynamic Positioned (DP) vessels. This approach can be costly and time-consuming. Matahio, however, envisioned a more streamlined and efficient solution.
Through collaboration with INCITIAS, we pioneered the use of custom-designed micro ROVs. These significantly smaller and nimbler vehicles required meticulous planning and adaptation. INCITIAS engineers equipped them with fibre optic tethers for enhanced communication, sonar for precise navigation, and high-definition cameras for detailed inspections. Importantly, the ROVs were outfitted with custom batteries, enabling air freight transportation and facilitating rapid project mobilisation.
This innovative approach minimised operational downtime and logistical complexities. Operating from a non-DP vessel further reduced costs without compromising on inspection quality. The project successfully achieved ABS certification for the UWILD mooring inspection, demonstrating the effectiveness of micro ROV technology.
Seamless collaboration was key to the project's success. Haravinth Thiruthonder, Client Project Manager for Matahio, played a key role in ensuring timely resource allocation while maintaining a smooth workflow. INCITIAS engineers Chris Ward and Nakhesh Singh, along with the client and vessel crew, significantly contributed to overcoming obstacles and achieving exceptional results.
